EU at the UN

The EU's commitment to effective multilateralism, with the UN at its core, is a central element of its external action. As a UN observer with enhanced status, the EU delegation coordinates with its 28 Member States to speak with one voice. The EU also works closely with the UN secretariat and its agencies, funds & programmes, partnering on a range of global issues and challenges.

19 January 2017, New York – The European Union Delegation to the United Nations New York is looking for a Temporary Assistant (from 1 April to 1 September 2017)

 Job Title: Temporary Assistant (from 1 April to 1 September 2017)

Functions and duties

Main responsibilities as Assistant to the Political, Peacekeeping, Peacebuilding and Disarmament Counsellors:

  • all relations with the UN, the UN Security Council secretariat, the General Assembly and national missions regarding administrative/organisational matters
  • the preparation & organization of dossiers and programs for high-level visitors and Commissioners, including contacts with other missions and UN HQ, scheduling of meetings and logistics
  • the preparation of speaking requests and statements for debates/meetings in the UN Security Council and General Assembly
  • the checking, formatting and transmission to HQ, archiving of Delegation reports in the areas covered by the Counsellors
  • the management of the Counsellors’ schedules, correspondence, appointments, mailing lists, filing systems and general secretarial and office requirements
  • special assistance to the Head of Political Section in managing his daily duties

Main responsibilities as Agora manager and helpdesk:

  • the distribution of documents via the Agora system (online communication tool with EU Member States)
  • the management of the Agora system in New York, including account creation and helpdesk for EU Delegation and member states missions
  • the training of all Delegation colleagues (staff and interns)
  • being the liaison point with IT services in Brussels

Job requirements

  • A post-secondary education diploma; professional experience a plus;
  • Thorough knowledge of English, both written and oral, and a good knowledge of French
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook).
  • High level of responsibility and ability to take initiative;
  • High level of organization and prioritization; ability to work under pressure;
  • Flexibility in working hours and ability to work long hours as required;
  • Excellent team spirit;
  • High level of discretion

What we offer

Monthly salary level is fixed at $3,805. We offer a competitive position in an international environment. Working hours are 37.5 per week.  No benefits are included.
