EU at the UN

The EU's commitment to effective multilateralism, with the UN at its core, is a central element of its external action. As a UN observer with enhanced status, the EU delegation coordinates with its 28 Member States to speak with one voice. The EU also works closely with the UN secretariat and its agencies, funds & programmes, partnering on a range of global issues and challenges.

9 August 2016, New York – High Representative Federica Mogherini announces senior appointment.

Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice President of the Commission, announced today the appointment of Mr. Jean-Christophe BELLIARD as the new Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs – Political Director for the EEAS.

Mr BELLIARD is a senior French diplomat who is currently serving as Director Africa and Indian Ocean in the French ministry of Foreign Affairs. Previously, he served as Personal Representative of High Representative Javier Solana for Africa and he held various posts of French bilateral Ambassador and has served as French Permanent Representative to the African Union.

Mr BELLIARD is due to take up his functions on 1 September 2016.


* The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia continue to be part of the Stabilisation and Association Process.
