The Candidate Countries Croatia and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia*, the Countries of the Stabilisation and Association Process and potential candidates Albania and Montenegro, as well as Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova and Georgia align themselves with this declaration.
The European Union would like to thank Guyana and the co-sponsors for tabling the General Assembly Resolution on “The role of the United Nations in promoting a new global human order”.
The European Union welcomes the resolution’s very strong focus on inequality, an issue of utmost importance that deserves adequate attention at all levels, including in the UN framework. The resolution reinforces this dimension compared to its previous version from three years ago.
The EU believes that the overarching framework for addressing inequality should be the Millennium Development Goals, and more specifically the Outcome document of the High-Level Plenary Meeting on the MDGs. This is clearly recognised by the resolution, which adequately updates its previous version to take into account the MDG Outcome.
* Croatia and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia continue to be part of the Stabilisation and Association Process.
