EU at the UN

The EU's commitment to effective multilateralism, with the UN at its core, is a central element of its external action. As a UN observer with enhanced status, the EU delegation coordinates with its 28 Member States to speak with one voice. The EU also works closely with the UN secretariat and its agencies, funds & programmes, partnering on a range of global issues and challenges.

Mr Chairman,

I have the honour to speak on behalf of the Member States of the European Union.

Let me first thank all Member States and especially you, Mr Chairman, for your hard work on this issue.

Mr Chairman,

We are pleased that we have been able to adopt today’s resolution on the Report of the Senior Advisory Group on rates of reimbursement to troop-contributing countries and other related issues.  We believe this is an important step towards renewing our partnership on peacekeeping and we now look forward to implementing the resolution we have adopted today.

The Member States of the European Union are not only significant financial contributors but we actively support and participate in UN peacekeeping on the ground, providing uniformed personnel and other capabilities. It is in the spirit of this commitment that we see the agreement we have reached today as a balanced one, the implementation of which is in the best interests of all Member States as well as of the UN and of UN peacekeeping.

I thank you, Mr Chairman.
