Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), made the following comments after the statement by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on the progress in forming a Palestinian unity government:

"I welcome the statement made today by the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. I hope that he will succeed very soon in his efforts to form a unity government. That development could have a very positive influence to re-energize the peace process".
