EUHR Solana welcomes signature of Iraqi Constitution

Summary: March 8, 2004: Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the CFSP, welcomes signature of Iraqi Constitution (Brussels)

Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), made today the following comments, following the signature in Baghdad of the new interim Constitution of Iraq by the Governing Council:

"I welcome the approval of an interim Constitution for Iraq by its Governing Council. The signature today of the constitutional text represents a fundamental step in the process of democratisation of the country and it provides a foundation for a future of peace and prosperity for the Iraqi people".
