Saudi Arabia: EU HR Ashton welcomes launch of public campaign against domestic violence

Summary: 16 May 2013, Brussels - The spokesperson of Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the Commission, issued the following statement today on the launch of a public awareness campaign in Saudi Arabia on domestic violence:

"The High Representative welcomes the King Khalid Foundation for the launch of a public campaign against domestic violence. Sadly, domestic violence is a world-wide phenomenon and the EU is ready to share its experience of addressing it. The High Representative is aware that this sensitive issue has been the subject of public debate in the Kingdom o fSaudi Arabia for some time, and hopes that the campaign will bring positive effects to the victims of domestic violence."
