EU-facilitated dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo: working group on civil registry set up

Summary: 28 March 2011, Brussels - The second meeting of the dialogue foreseen in United Nations General Assembly Resolution 298 was held with the facilitation of the EU on 28 March, in Brussels. The meeting was chaired by EU facilitator, Mr. Cooper. The Kosovo delegation was led by Ms. Tahiri and the Serbian delegation was led by Mr. Stefanovic.

The meeting built on the positive start from 8 and 9 March. It was held in a good working atmosphere.

As a follow-up to the first meeting civil registry and cadastre records were discussed. The parties decided to set up a joint working group chaired by EULEX to take forward the practical work of completing civil registry information.

On cadastre they will work to further elaborate an outline agreement aimed at producing more accurate cadastre records and thereby securing the rights of property owners.

The participants had a first exchange of views on telecoms and electricity.

They continued discussions on regional trade and free movement of goods. The wider issue of free movement of persons was raised briefly with a view to discussion at a future meeting.

The next meeting will be held in mid-April.
