Summary: 15 November 2010, Brussels - At the invitation of the South Sudan Referendum Commission, the European Union is deploying a team of independent experts to assess the voter registration exercise scheduled in November- December for the Referendum in Sudan.
It is the first time that the European Union will be present during a Voter Registration process. Experts’ findings will inform the EU Observation Mission which will be deployed from mid December to observe the Referendum scheduled to take place on 9-11 January 2011, under the leadership of Véronique de Keyser, Member of the European Parliament. The EOM will present comprehensive recommendations, based on exhaustive facts and information, once the entire process is over.
